Hiding in the back of my Europe journal is a list of the 29 different types of beers that I tried while I was in Europe. I tried to get beers in their native countries and beers that I would not normally have a chance to drink in the US. I wanted to share this list with my thoughts on which ones you should look for stateside.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Hoegaarden – White beer, yum

Hoegaarden Witte – White beer, OK

Dommelsch – Local pilsner, OK

Heineken- Everybody’s favorite

Berlin, Germany

Kostritzer – Black beer, dark but sweet. One of my favorites.

Berliner Pils – Budweiser-esque

Flensburger – Dunkel, very good. Worth a 6-pack.

Diebel Altbier – OK, Pale Ale (not a fan of pales in general)

Prater Dunkel – One of the best, local Prater brewery dunkel creation.

Franziskaner Kristallklar – Filtered wheat, yum

Schutller- German equivalent of Schlitz, nasty.

Kilkenny – Halfway from Killians to Guiness

Paulaner Hefe- Delicious

Erdinger Dunkel – Washed down the Schutller with this, MUCH better!

Prague, The Czech Republic

Staropramen – Pilsner tatse, very tasty

Staropramen Dark – Awesome beer, like the Prater

Krušovice- Great taste and refreshing pilsner.

Pilsner Urquell – Old favorite

Gambriau – The Czech Schlitz … nasty!!

Velkopopovicky Kozel – Tasty sweet dark beer. Had it in a pub that was 800 years old.

Herold – OK

Velvet – Nasty. Thick and slimy pub ale.

Interlaken, Switzerland

RugenBrau – All night drinking here. Good taste, light (mix it with Lemonade

1664 Kronenbourg – They mostly taste the same … light and not very cold.

Feldschlosschen – They mostly taste the same … light and not very cold.

London, England

John Smiths- Boring British pub ale

Youngs Extra Bitter- I must have angered the beer gods. This is a disgusting cask ale.

Strongbow – Cider ale … not too shabby.

Pacifico – I had to get off the British beer.
